Sure, he was the most electrifying college football player in some years for Auburn last fall, and may yet prove to be a deserving top pick in the 2011 NFL Draft. But Cam Newton's talents do not extend to singing Justin Bieber's "Baby," which is really a negative for the Carolina Panthers.
VIDEO: Cam Newton Sings ‘Baby,’ Is Decidedly Not Justin Bieber
After all, how are the Panthers supposed to market their marquee name during the NFL lockout if not by making him a tween idol akin to the Biebs?
Newton’s “Baby” warbling is lamentable, sure — he didn’t really go for it on the “Nooooo” that set so many 12-year-olds’ hearts ablaze when Bieber belted it — but more amusing, in my mind, is his completely generic freestyle over Juelz Santana’s “There It Go (The Whistle Song)” beat at the end. Here are the bars Newton comes up with:
When they see me, they say he’s sick
Aw, man, the number one draft pick
Yeah, I got the swag
Aw, man, I don’t mean to brag
Cam, here’s my advice: don’t quit your day job to rap, because you couldn’t beat Eli Porter in a battle. On the bright side, YouTube commenter “cam420newton” thinks this performance was “swag,” so there’s that.
