Chris Simms’ Marijuana Arrest Defense: My Friend Was Smoking, Not Me

Sometimes, in life, you need chill bros who will cover for you. In Titans quarterback Chris Simms' case, that chill bro position includes testifying that it wasn't Simms who was smoking marijuana in a car during an incident that led to Simms' arrest last July.

A childhood friend of Tennessee Titans backup quarterback Chris Simms has told a jury the player wasn't smoking marijuana before being pulled over in New York City.

Friend Charles Granatell testified Tuesday he's the one whose smoking created a marijuana smell. Police said it wafted from Simms' luxury SUV during a July 1 traffic stop.

Groovy. Probably not going to work, but good hustle, member of Chris Simms’ entourage! (Yeah, somehow, that exists.)

It's tempting to make jokes about how all of Simms' common sense apparently left him along with his spleen, or about how Tennessee seems really good at picking quarterbacks who have all sorts of flaws. (Vince Young and Jake Locker say hi, as does Kerry Collins' past!) But, well, Simms was described as "zombie-like" by a police officer, and the "It wasn't me" defense didn't even work for Shaggy, so I'm not thinking that this one's going to get Simms off.

Better to reduce this lame explanation to what it really is: “It was my bud’s bud, bud.”
