[Update: Eric Berry’s agent, Chad Speck, says Berry “did not attend and had no knowledge of this event, and he certainly did not approve the use of his name and image in connection with the party.”]
NFL Looking At Use Of Players In Uniform For Porn Party Ad
Several NFL players are identified as hosts in an advertisement for a porn party last month, which is fine, but the players are featured in their NFL uniforms and that has gotten the NFL’s notice.
As you can see in this ad, five NFL players -- Kansas City Chiefs DBs Brandon Flowers and Eric Berry, Houston Texans DB Kareem Jackson, Oakland Raiders WR Jacoby Ford and Chicago Bears S Major Wright -- are featured in their uniforms. ABC-7 in Chicago contacted the league and spokesman Brian McCarthy indicated they are looking into whether the event, Exxxotica Expo 2011, were allowed to show the players in uniform.
“Our legal team is reviewing the ad. In general, companies not affiliated with the NFL or its clubs may not depict a player in his uniform.”
There’s nothing that says players can’t host parties like this so that’s not the issue. The issue is whether the company behind the party had the right to use images of players in uniform.
