David Tyree, A Pass Completion Is A Sacred Act Between A Left Hand And Right Hand

I was recently made aware of some statements you made during an interview with the National Organization for Marriage, a group that opposes gay marriage. You stated:

If they pass this gay marriage bill… I guess you can say my peace is in God’s sovereignty, but… what I know, what would happen if this comes forth… this would be the beginning of our country sliding toward, it is a strong word, but anarchy.

And you added:

How can marriage be marriage for thousands of years and now all of a sudden because a minority, an influential minority, has a push or agenda … and totally reshapes something that was not founded in our country.

I am satisfied with your logically unassailable methods of logic, and that is precisely why I am writing you. Because you see, sir, I would like to call your attention to the events of February 3, 2008.

However, sir, you made the catch by pressing the ball between your hand and your helmet. Since the inception of the forward pass, completions have traditionally been a sacred act between a left hand and a right hand. How can a reception be a reception for decades and now all of a sudden because a receiver, a receiver who was primarily a special teams player, has a shot at the ball... and totally reshapes something that was not done in this sport?

I’m not saying I hate helmets. Helmets are fine. It’s just that if I catch a ball with my two hands, and I see you catching a ball between your hand and your helmet, that compromises the catch I just made.

This catch didn’t suddenly create anarchy in the sport. I’m not saying that. I’m saying that it signifies the beginning of our sport sliding toward anarchy.

Regardless, Mr. Tyree, I wish you well on your quest to keep a group of people sequestered to second-class citizenry for committing the grand crime of being themselves, and enjoy a considerable degree of self-satisfaction for doing so. Thanks for using your head -- both literally (thinking) and even more literally (catching a football in a football game)!!!
