The Detroit Lions have been called a rising team for a number of years now but finally it seems that the pieces are coming together, especially with DT Ndamukong Suh, who had a monster rookie year. Suh will be joined by rookie DT Nick Fairley and veteran DE Kyle Vanden Bosch this season which means they could have one of the scariest defensive lines in the game.
Nickname For Lions Defensive Line: ‘Silver Crush’
And of course any scary defensive line needs a nickname. Lions head coach Jim Schwartz took to Twitter this week to figure out a new nickname for his defensive line. The responses came in and Schwartz says the new winner is “Silver Crush”.
This is of course a nod to the Lions’ “Silver Rush” nickname in years past. “Acknowledges tradition/history of ‘Silver Rush’ with slight update,” Schwarz wrote on Twitter.
I like the name but I’m not a huge fan of coming up with your own nicknames. I think they should come naturally, as former Lions DT Doug English told the Detroit Free-Press.
"Some guy's going to make a comment after a game, or an opposing player's going to say, ‘Gosh, it was like a blank,' and suddenly, they're going to have a name."
Whatever their name is, this is going to be one hell of a defensive line. Heck, it was already nearing greatness with just Suh and Vanden Bosch.
