The NFL is at a standstill today to recognize the passing and funeral services of Myra Kraft, the beloved wife of Bob Kraft, the New England Patriots owner, and a favorite of Patriots players past and present. But that doesn't mean we stop breaking news, right? You gotta HUSTLE if you wanna get ahead in the news business.
Live-Tweeting A Funeral, Eh? Well That’s Certainly One Way To Go...
Enter the Boston Herald reporter who’s been live-tweeting the proceedings thus far. Gems like this just couldn’t wait for the full story a few hours from now.
I am inside the temple, but @carolynmanno has a good look at Patriots who've arrived: Brady, Belichick, Mankins, Mayo, Seymour, etc
Eyes visibly red, Cowboys owner Jerry Jones says of Myra Kraft, "We will miss her."
Jets owner Woody Johnson just walked by. He's here to pay his respects. Curtis Martin and Drew Bledsoe just spoke and reminisced
I know that a funeral like this is real news, and stories will be written about it all over the country. Likewise, we regularly televise funerals, albeit without much commentary. But there’s something about tweeting celebrity sightings and tidbits from a funeral that seems a little... Classless? Pathetic? A depressing reminder of why we sometimes hate 2011?
Funerals aren’t supposed to be covered like the Royal Wedding.
It’s not a huge deal, and it shouldn’t detract from remembering Kraft today. But just for the sake of our collective decency, let’s be pretty clear on this one... If you’re tweeting out newsworthy items and quotes from a funeral, I think you’re missing the point, dude.
