The reports came down on Tuesday evening -- the Minnesota Vikings were making a run at QB Donovan McNabb. According to a variety of reports, the Vikings and Redskins have a deal in place that would send McNabb to Minnesota. The move, however, is contingent on McNabb re-working his contract, which pays him a big bonus the day after the season starts.
On Donovan McNabb Trade, Christian Ponder Says He’s Excited
The Vikings used their first round pick on QB Christian Ponder this year so McNabb will be a stop-gap in Minnesota. Ponder, for his part, tweeted on Wednesday morning that he’s ready for McNabb to come.
Excited to have McNabb join. Will learn a lot from a Pro Bowler. But that doesn't mean I'm not still fighting to start week 1!
Neither player has worked with the coaching staff so I suppose they both have a legitimate shot at the starting job. In the long run, though, this will be Ponder’s team.
Minnesota was rumored to be interested in McNabb last year before he was traded to the Redskins. That was back when McNabb was worth a second or third round pick. After a less-than-impressive showing in Washington, the McNabb to Minnesota trade will involve only a sixth round pick in 2012 and a conditional sixth rounder in 2013.
