Ed Bouchette of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette tweets that former wide receiver Plaxico Burress’ comeback tour continues: he met with coach Mike Tomlin at Steelers camp Saturday morning, and also spoke to Steelers president Art Rooney and GM Kevin Colbert.
Plaxico Burress Visits Steelers As Comeback Tour Continues
I’ve said it before, and I’ll say it again: way too much text has been spilled over this. Once we get past the sensationalism of the story (did you know Plaxico Burress went to jail?), there isn’t much here here. The Steelers are already pretty deep at wide receiver, with Mike Wallace and Hines Ward leading the way and with second-year players Emmanuel Sanders and Antonio Brown as an able supporting cast. They have no particular use for a soon-to-be 34-year-old who hasn’t played since 2008. As much as Ben Roethlisberger loves to talk about how he wants a tall receiver, height is an overrated quality among wideouts, and a lack of height has never stopped guys like Wallace and Ward from putting up monster seasons.
