Plaxico Burress Signs With New York Jets, According To Report

Plaxico Burress will be returning to New York, but not to play for his old team. The giant veteran wide receiver, recently re-instated by NFL commissioner Roger Goodell after serving a prison sentence, is signing with the New York Jets according to a report by Adam Schefter. Burress most recently played football two seasons ago and is now 33 years old.

Burress was charged with two counts of felony possession of a weapon and one count of felony reckless endangerment in 2008 after he accidentally shot himself in the leg in a nightclub. He did not have a legal concealed carry permit and entered a plea deal that would see him serve two years in prison. He was released from prison on June 6.

His 2008 season was shortened by the shooting incident, but Burress was extremely effective in his last full season, making 70 receptions for 1,025 yards and 12 touchdowns in 2008. He joins a re-tooled New York Jets receiving corps that will be losing Braylon Edwards and Brad Smith, but that retained Santonio Holmes and Jerricho Cotchery.
