Free agent running back Ahman Green will officially announce his retirement from professional football prior to the Green Bay Packers' Thursday night practice, Vic Ketchman of Packers.com reports.

Running back Ahman Green to officially announce his retirement on Thursday night.
Originally selected in the third round of the 1998 NFL Draft by the Seattle Seahawks, the former Nebraska Cornhusker standout was traded to the Packers in 2000 in exchange for cornerback Fred Vinson, who would tear an ACL and never play for the Seahawks.
Meanwhile, Green would go on to become one of the NFL’s most complete and productive running backs. From 2000-2004, Green would rushed for 6,848 yards and 48 touchdowns, adding 282 receptions for 2,188 yards and 13 touchdowns out of the backfield. Green went to the Pro Bowl following the 2001, 2002, 2003, and 2004 seasons before injuries caught up to him in 2005.
Green would parlay a sixth 1,000-yard season with the Packers in 2006 into a four-year, $23 million contract with the Houston Texans, but knee injuries limited him to just 554 yards and five touchdowns in 14 games over two seasons before he was released. Green had a second stint with the Packers in 2009, his last appearance in the NFL, and spent 2010 with the UFL's Omaha Nighthawks and was briefly with the Montreal Alouettes of the Canadian Football League earlier in 2011.
Green retires as the Packers’ all-time leader in rushing attempts (1,851) and rushing yards (8,322), ranks second in rushing touchdowns (54), third in total touchdowns (68), and is seventh in receptions with 350.
