After having quietly one of the better rookie years in the league in 2010, Panthers WR David Gettis has a torn ACL, the team announced on their Twitter Thursday.
David Gettis Injury: Panthers WR Tears ACL
Panthers wide receiver David Gettis tore his ACL, the team announced, ending the season for last year’s starter before it even began. The injury leaves the Panthers’ desperately thin at wideout.

Gettis caught 37 passes for 508 yards and three touchdowns last season — impressive numbers for a rookie, even more so when you consdier the quagmire at quarterback he was dealing with for the entirety of the 2010 season.
Now the Panthers are in serious trouble at wide receiver. Despite the signing of Legedu Naanee, the team was incredibly thin before Gettis' injury behind Steve Smith. Gettis, Naanee, Armanti Edwards and Brandon LaFell were all competing for the second wide receiver spot, which really says something about that second wide receiver spot.
It would be reasonable to assume that the Panthers are now super-interested in suddenly available wide receiver Lee Evans, but any opinions on that front would be pure speculation at this point.
