Plaxico Burress will miss the Jets preseason opener Monday against the Texans, and will undergo an MRI on his sprained left ankle. Coach Rex Ryan had previously said that the receiver would be able to play, but changed his tune Friday saying that Burress would not be able to practice until Wednesday at the earliest.
Plaxico Burress Injury: Jets WR To Miss First Preseason Game
Burress will be forced to undergo an MRI and rest his injured ankle.
“We’re trying to get Plaxico at 100%,” Ryan said. “On Wednesday, we’ll assume he’ll be 100% if we back him off completely now. We’ll keep our fingers crossed. He feels better today than he ever has since he had the injury. We want him to be at a 100%. We don’t want it to linger. If we chill him until Wednesday, he should be just fine.”
One reason Burress will not be making the trip to play the Texans is that the flight altitude, of all things, would worsen the swelling in his ankle.
