Matt Prater has been the kicker for the Denver Broncos since 2007. A recent brush with the law makes him think that might not be the case for long, however.
Broncos Kicker Matt Prater Charged With DUI, According To Report
Denver Broncos kicker Matt Prater was charged with a DUI after fleeing the scene of an accident earlier this month.
Prater was charged with driving under the influence and leaving the scene of an accident on August 2, two charges that are no doubt serious regardless of the surrounding factors, but Prater believes his DUI charge could effect his future in the NFL.
“I really messed up. I’m going to lose my job. I deserve this,” Prater told the police after being arrested according to a report obtained by the Denver Post.
Prater’s issues are pretty complex, it seems, as it involves hitting a parked car with his Chevy TrailBlazer -- featuring a parking permit for the Broncos’ Dove Valley training camp with Prater’s name on it -- while apparently carousing with a stripper and eventually ending up at a nearby La Quinta hotel where the authorities found him.
The Broncos released a statement to the Post, saying they’ve already addressed the issues.
“Our organization is disappointed with the poor judgment shown by Matt Prater on Aug. 2. This matter, which was addressed with the team last week, continues to be thoroughly reviewed internally.”
Considering Prater kicked three field goals in the Broncos NFL preseason opener on Thursday night, it seems the kicker will keep his job, at least for the time being.
