New York Jets vs. Houston Texans

The New York Jets and Houston Texans open their 2011 preseason campaigns with a Monday Night Football contest at Reliant Stadium in Houston. The Jets are coming off an 11-5 season in which they came up just short of the Super Bowl. After knocking off their rivals, the New England Patriots, they lost 24-19 to the Pittsburgh Steelers in the AFC championship game. The Texans slumped to a 6-10 finish in 2010 as they lost eight of nine at one point and blew a strong start to the season.

Arguably the Jets biggest story heading into 2011 is the signing of Plaxico Burress. With the loss of Braylon Edwards, Mark Sanchez will look to develop a quick rapport with Burress. While Burress was the Jets only free agent acquisition, the team will be looking to get some early production out of their defensive line from first round pick Muhammad Wilkerson and possibly third round pick Kenrick Ellis.

The Houston Texans took a step backwards in 2010 and will be looking to get back into the playoff race with some big acquisitions. They surprised some folks when they signed free agent cornerback Johnathan Joseph and the Texans will be expecting big things from him. Additionally, first round pick J.J. Watt will look to make an immediate impact at defensive end. It will also be interesting to see how they deal with the loss of Vonta Leach. He was huge in blocking for Arian Foster, leaving Texans fans wondering how his departure will impact Foster.
