Jonathan Fanene has officially re-signed with the Cincinnati Bengals, according to the team's official Twitter feed. ESPN's John Clayton reported last Tuesday that a one-year deal had been finalized, though the team is only now confirming. Fanene played in just two games last season while struggling through a hamstring injury. He was placed in injured reserve in November.
Jonathan Fanene, Veteran DE, Re-Signs With Bengals
Fanene re-signs, bolstering the Bengals’ rotation at defensive end.
Fanene is two years removed from a career year in 2009, in which he racked up 36 tackles, six sacks, two passes defended, one interception and a touchdown in 16 games. His return won’t revolutionize the Bengals’ defense, but he should play a significant role in the rotation at defensive end.
The Bengals have bodies at defensive end, but so far Michael "Tank" Johnson has disappointed since he moved from Chicago, Frostee Rucker has battled injuries, and Carlos Dunlap is still raw in his second year out of Florida.
