QB Nate Davis Released By Indianapolis Colts

The Colts signed QB Nate Davis less than a month ago but have opted to release him after the first preseason game.

The Indianapolis Colts signed former Ball State QB Nate Davis last month and, just like that, he's back on the market. According to multiple reports, the Colts have released Davis, two days after he played in the preseason loss to the St. Louis Rams.

Davis was the 49ers fifth round pick in the 2009 draft. He stayed on the practice squad in 2010 before getting signed by the Seattle Seahawks in January, only to see him get released in March before the lockout hit.

Davis signed with the Colts last month and now his Indy career is over.

Some in Indianapolis are a little confused by the move not because Davis has looked spectacular -- reportedly he looked lost in the Rams game -- but because the other backups to QB Peyton Manning haven't fared much better.

Interestingly, Curtis Painter has never seemed as if he knows what the hell to do during a football game. Yet, he still remains the back-up quarterback. In preseason the last two years, Painter is 32-62 for 427 yards, 1 TD and 5 INTs.

Over the last 13 years the Colts haven't had to worry about the quarterback position with QB Peyton Manning. This year, however, there's some concern over his health which means the backup position may be more critical.
