Like So Many Other People, Mark Sanchez Wanted To Fight Rex Ryan

New York Jets QB Mark Sanchez is profiled (and hunkily-photographed) in the latest issue of GQ. Inside, Sanchez admits to having the same desire that so many other NFL athletes and coaches have had over the last few seasons. He wanted to punch Rex Ryan.

After Ryan told reporters he had considered benching Sanchez during a December loss to the Miami Dolphins, Sanchez nearly lost his cool.

“I wanted to fight him...I was really mad...Rex is super honest. I wish he wasn’t that honest at times, especially to say that.”

Three days later in practice, when told that he was being taken out and replaced by Mark Brunell for a few plays, Sanchez refused to yield his spot and stood his ground. That weekend the Jets beat the Pittsburgh Steelers on the road and went on a streak that propelled the Jets into the playoffs.

The moral of the story? Wanting to punch Rex Ryan in the face is a powerful motivator.
