The Washington Redskins hopped into the free agency pool on Tuesday morning announcing the return of CB Phillip Buchanon. The news was first reported by Buchanon himself on Twitter.

What Buchanon didn’t tweet was that he has been suspended for the first four games of the season. Head coach Mike Shanahan informed reporters of the suspension Tuesday morning but didn’t explain the violation.
This explain why his name wasn’t bandied about very much during free agency. Teams apparently knew he had a suspension coming so his value was lowered. It’ll also be interesting to see how much of a discount the Redskins got on bringing him back with the suspension awaiting his return.
So Buchanon can participate in training camp (on Aug. 4) but he’ll be unavailable for the first four weeks of the season.
