The Rex Ryan Tattoo That Launched A Marketing Blitz
Rex Ryan showed up to Jets training camp this week sporting a new tattoo, and say this much for the Jets, they've made the most of the attention. As for the tattoo's origins, Ryan told media, "I was on vacation in Hawaii. I've got a couple of tattoos before. I just felt like it. The guy that I went to had given me tattoos before and it's just something that I wanted to do."
Then, according to the New Jersey Register, “The Jets advertised a contest asking fans to decipher the tattoo’s meaning, a brain-burner of a request considering it is difficult to ascertain what the design is exactly.” That’s how engage your audience, guys.
But what does that stupid thing mean?
Well, on Tuesday Rex took to the Jets Facebook page to record a video explaining the meaning of his Ed Hardy-looking calf art, telling fans it means, “Believe in yourself, which I got no problem doing.” That’s how an innocuous tattoo becomes incredibly annoying. Meanwhile, Rex Ryan suddenly seems just as attention-starved as his critics say he is, and I... I just don’t know what to believe anymore.
