The Indianapolis Colts have made a huge addition — literally — to their defense, agreeing to terms with former Bears' DT Tommie Harris on a one-year contract, according to the Chicago Sun-Times.
Tommie Harris Signs One-Year Deal With Indianapolis Colts, According To Report
The Colts have signed former All-Pro Tommie Harris to a one-year contract, finally giving Dwight Freeney and Robert Mathis some help on the interior line.
Harris has dealt with nagging injuries the past two seasons, limiting the former first-round pick’s effectiveness, but when he’s been healthy, he’s been a force. He’s made three Pro Bowls (2005-2007) and he’s been an All-Pro twice, in ‘05 and ‘06. The Bears cut him this offseason in their flurry of decisions to release most of their good players for seemingly no reason.
Harris is only 28, so this one-year contract is a “show us something” deal, and if he can return to his Pro Bowl level of production, he will likely be fielding some multi-year offers next summer.
For the Colts, this is a fantastic addition, as Harris will make life easier for stud DEs Dwight Freeney and Robert Mathis, who have combined for almost 70 sacks the past three seasons while playing without much interior line help.
