The Cleveland Browns and Pro Bowl left tackle Joe Thomas have agreed on a seven-year, $84 million contract extension, ESPN's Adam Schefter reports. Thomas' extension will include $44 million in guaranteed money, Schefter adds.
Selected with the third overall pick of the 2007 NFL Draft out of the University of Wisconsin, the 6-foot-6, 312-pound Thomas has started all 64 games of his four-year NFL career, establishing himself as one of the premier left tackles in the NFL. Thomas has earned four straight trips to the Pro Bowl (which have banked $6.5 million in bonus money) and has been named to the All-Pro team in each of the last three seasons, including first-team honors after the 2009 and 2010 seasons.
Thomas has a $1 million reporting bonus and was scheduled to earn $8 million in base salary in 2011, the final year of his five-year, $42.5 million rookie contract that included $23 million in guarantees.
