So who will represent the AFC and NFC in the 2012 Super Bowl? According to Prediction Machine, it'll be the Green Bay Packers and San Diego Chargers. They've simulated the entire NFL season, including the playoffs, 50,000 times to come up with their results.
NFL Season Predictions Have Packers, Chargers Meeting In Super Bowl
Let’s take a look at the playoff teams in Prediction Machine’s simulations.
(Ranked in order from first seed to sixth seed)
AFC: San Diego Chargers, Pittsburgh Steelers, New England Patriots, Houston Texans, New York Jets and Baltimore Ravens.
The team not included that catches my eye? The Indianapolis Colts. QB Peyton Manning and Co. have made it to the playoffs in 11 of the last 12 years and won at least 10 games dating back to 2001. With Manning's injury, there are more than a few people predicting this is the year the streak ends. Prediction Machine has the Texans taking the division.
NFC: Green Bay Packers, Philadelphia Eagles, New Orleans Saints, Arizona Cardinals, Atlanta Falcons and Dallas Cowboys.
The notables here are the Cards winning the NFC West, which the Seattle Seahawks won last year, and the Chicago Bears failing to reach the playoffs after making it to the NFC Championship game last year.
Obviously, there are limitations to predicting the season -- you never know what will actually happen. QB Aaron Rodgers could get hurt in Week 2 ruining the Packers chances. The Chargers special teams could, somehow, be as bad as last year and they don’t make the playoffs.
