The Arizona Cardinals made a change at quarterback on Wednesday, opting to release injured Max Hall in order to sign former Kansas City Chiefs signal caller Brodie Croyle. Hall injured his shoulder in practice on Monday.

Croyle will officially sign with the team as soon as he passes a physical, according to Kent Somers of the Arizona Republic, but the Cardinals seem to have signed him more as preseason insurance than anything else.

The five-year NFL veteran has spent the duration of his career thus far as a stop-gap starter with the Kansas City Chiefs, but Croyle's new job in Arizona will require him to earn the job as Kevin Kolb's primary back-up alongside John Skelton and Rich Bartel.

Croyle will likely have the opportunity to do just that for the Cardinals this week, too, considering Skelton is nursing an injury and Kolb probably won’t take a ton of snaps. Either way, according to Somers, Cardinals head coach Ken Whisenhunt only plans to keep three quarterbacks on the roster so Croyle has his work cut out for him with just two weeks left in the preseason.
