The Buffalo Bills are awaiting news on an injury to DT Marcell Dareus. The Buffalo News reported that Dareus injured his left ankle in practice -- during the portion that was closed to the media -- and he was later seen walking around the locker room with his ankle heavily taped and on crutches.
Marcell Dareus’ Injury Doesn’t Appear Serious; Bills Fans Exhale
Bills DT and third overall pick in the 2011 NFL draft Marcell Dareus was reportedly injured in Wednesday’s practice but early reports say it’s not serious.
WIVB’s John Murphy in Buffalo (via Buffalo Rumblings) reports that the injury isn’t serious.
Murphy reports that Dareus was kicked in the calf during Wednesday’s afternoon practice, which was closed to media. While Murphy’s sources tell him that the injury is not too serious, they also caution that Dareus could miss a little time.
Anytime 300-plus pound players hurt their ankles it’s worrisome because there’s so much weight on there that you don’t want it to turn into a recurring problem. That said, it appears the injury isn’t too serious.
As Buffalo Rumblings points out, missing any regular season time would be disappointing, especially for the third overall pick. Dareus has looked impressive in two preseason games showing the ability to get to the quarterback, which is impressive for a man of his size.
Because of the NFL lockout, Dareus and the rest of the rookies didn’t have a longer offseason to prepare for the season so they’re all playing catch up to some degree, which makes any time missed even more critical. Let’s hope Dareus is back soon.
