The Oakland Raiders lost arguably the top corner in the NFL when CB Nnamdi Asomugha signed with the Philadelphia Eagles in free agency. One player that will help supplement his loss is CB Lito Sheppard, who was signed on Friday.
CB Lito Sheppard Joins Oakland Raiders
The Raiders bolstered their depth at cornerback this week by signing CB Lito Sheppard.
No terms of the deal were disclosed.
Sheppard is best known for seven productive years with the Eagles from 2002-08 before moving onto the New York Jets and Minnesota Vikings for one season apiece.
SB Nation’s Silver and Black Pride has a few tidbits on why he might have been signed:
With Chris Johnson out after having surgery and rooking CB Demarcus Van Dyke missing the last two practices with an undisclosed injury, the Raiders needed to add to their DB depth.
He’s certainly not Asomugha but he’s a decent veteran to add at this stage of the season. The Raiders have two remaining preseason games so he’ll have an opportunity to get some work in before the season.
