Andre Gurode Released By Dallas Cowboys As NFL Roster Cut Deadline Nears

The Cowboys released C Andre Gurode on Monday after reportedly asking him to take a pay cut.

In a move that doesn't come completely out of the blue, the Dallas Cowboys released C Andre Gurode on Monday. The Cowboys were reportedly asking him to take a pay cut in order to remain on the team, which he apparently declined, so the team released him.

Gurode was voted into NFL Network’s top 100 players this summer coming in at No. 57. SB Nation’s Blogging The Boys notes the writing may have been on the wall for some time with this move considering Gurode’s salary.

Yet at a $5.5 base salary and with a $7.2 salary cap hit, the price of keeping Gurode appears to have been too steep for the Cowboys. Gurode will now count $1.66 million against the salary cap this year and the same amount next year. For those willing to look closely, the warning signs have been there for a while now.

Gurode is clearly a talented player, even at age 33. He’s made the Pro Bowl the last five seasons and has started every game the last three years. His price tag, however, was too much for the Cowboys.

Blogging The Boys has the full history on Gurode’s tenure in Dallas and why it came to an end now.
