The Chicago Bears have until Tuesday afternoon to get down to 80 players, the roster limit required by the league, and they got a head start on Monday releasing several players, including LB Vernon Gholston.
Vernon Gholston Among Chicago Bears Roster Cuts
The Chicago Bears released several players to get down to the 80-man roster limit, including former New York Jets LB Vernon Gholston.

The former sixth overall pick has been disappointing in stops in New York and Chicago, as the Bears official site notes.
Gholston registered just one tackle in three preseason games after signing with the Bears July 29. The 6-3, 262-pounder was selected by the New York Jets with the sixth overall pick in the 2008 draft. But he was released in March after failing to record a sack in three seasons.
Gholston was drafted high enough where there’s going to be some team out there who thinks they can finally be the ones to get something out of him but after three seasons in the league he hasn’t demonstrated that he can make an impact.
The other Bears cuts were DT Tank Tyler, QB Trevor Vittatoe, C J.C. Brignone and LB Tanner Antle
