Chester Taylor Will Reportedly Be Released By Chicago Bears

The Bears have released Chester Taylor just one year into his four-year contract.

Chester Taylor will be released from the Chicago Bears in anticipation of Tuesday’s league deadline to trim rosters down to 80 players. Taylor signed a four-year, $12.5 million contract with the team last season but wasn’t overly effective in Mike Martz’ offense, averaging just 2.4 yards per carry.

Taylor's departure could be a sign that the team sees Marion Barber being an integral part of the running game in addition to Matt Forte this season. It also indicates that perhaps the calf injury that Barber suffered last Saturday is not as severe as initially feared.

Taylor has been a durable and dependable backup running back for going on 10 years in the NFL. His abilities as a pass-catcher made him a third-down staple in Baltimore, Minnesota and Chicago. Brad Biggs of the National Football Post speculates that the Ravens could be a landing spot for Taylor, along with Arizona.
