NFL Free Agency: Cadillac Williams To Sign With St. Louis Rams, According To Report

Cadillac Williams will sign a free agent deal with the St. Louis Rams after playing his first six seasons with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, according to a report.

Cadillac Williams was never able to duplicate the success he had in his rookie year with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, leading the running back to check out NFL free agency this summer. Turns out the man formerly known as Carnell won't be a free agent for long.

Williams, a six-year pro, will sign with the St. Louis Rams later Wednesday, according to ESPN's Chris Mortensen (via Rick Stroud). This comes just a few days after St. Louis missed out on signing Ronnie Brown, who had a contract offer from the Rams before eventually signing with the Philadelphia Eagles.

Williams best professional season came as a rookie as fifth overall pick of the 2005 NFL Draft rushed for 1,178 yards and six touchdowns while starting 14 games for the Rams during his first professional season. Injuries have derailed his career a bit since, however, as he appeared in a total of just 10 games during the 2007 and 2008 seasons before recently getting a bit back on track.

Williams will probably serve as the primary backup to Steven Jackson once he arrives in St. Louis, provided he stays healthy.
