The San Francisco 49ers have agreed to terms with free agent center Jonathan Goodwin, Matt Barrows of The Sacramento Bee reports.

According to ESPN’s Adam Schefter, the three-year deal is worth $10.9 million and includes $4 million in guarantees.

A fifth-round pick out of Michigan by the New York Jets in 2002, Goodwin started spent much of his first three seasons in the league backing up Kevin Mawae, stepping in to replace an injured Mawae for the final 10 games of the 2005 season. Signed by the New Orleans Saints as a free agent in 2006, Goodwin backed up Jeff Faine for two seasons before becoming the full-time starter in 2008. Over the last three seasons, Goodwin has started 45 games for the Saints, earning Pro Bowl honors after the 2010 season.

The 49ers have been looking for a center after releasing Eric Heitmann, who missed last season with a neck injury that required another procedure that put his availability in 2011 in doubt. Veteran David Baas, who replaced Heitmann last season, signed with the New York Giants.

Goodwin, 32, will likely be the 49ers' starter in Week One, with veteran Tony Wragge backing him up.
