Jets Vs. Giants: Mark Sanchez, Eli Manning Don’t Impress

It's just the preseason but last night's Monday Night Football game between the New York Giants and New York Jets wasn't exactly a quarterback duel. QB Mark Sanchez, whose Jets beat QB Eli Manning's Giants, 17-3, completed only 50 percent of his passes and never looked better than average. Manning, on the other hand, was a little more productive but threw two picks.

In short, neither quarterback looked very good. That much is obvious as I’ve been combing the SB Nation blogs for the Jets and the Giants.

Gang Green Nation on Sanchez:

Mark Sanchez went 8 for 16 with a touchdown pass and a lost fumble for an 81.63 rating. 50% accuracy is not what Mark was talking about when he said he needed to improve of last seasons numbers. Again, it’s only the preseason, don’t panic. But I’m not sure we’re going to see a miracle 3rd year quarterback so much as same old Sanchez, showing up for us when it matters.

Big Blue View on Manning:

I will give Eli a little bit of a pass on the first interception since it was a fourth-down play. Still, it was a back foot throw that was way off target. The second throw never should have been made and was discouraging to watch. A guy with his pedigree has to know better than to throw that ball. He also missed a couple of wide open receivers, including Mario Manningham on what should have been a long touchdown. Eli has to stop talking about making better decisions or taking better advantage of opportunities, and actually start DOING those things.

Again, it’s just preseason, both of these quarterbacks have demonstrated they can win and they have solid teams. The sky isn’t falling. That said, you always want to see better performances than a 50 percent completion percentage out of your quarterback.
