DE/DT Victor Abiamiri has suffered a major set back. According to Howard Eskin of WPI in Philadelphia, the Eagles defensive end has suffered a torn Achilles, which will likely keep him out for the year. Eskin speculates it could end his career in the NFL.
Philadelphia Eagles’ Victor Abiamiri Reportedly Suffers Torn Achilles
Eagles DE/DT suffered a torn Achilles and is likely done for the season, according to a report from WIP in Philadelphia.
SB Nation’s Bleeding Green Nation reacted to the news similarly:
Abiamiri was actually injured once again and was seen walking around on crutches and in a boot. The team refused to talk about the injury, but after working all summer to rehab from his previous injuries it had to be very frustrating to get hurt again. He was probably not long for the roster anyway, but it is sad to see a young guy’s career turn out that way.
Abiamiri was the Eagles second round pick in the 2007 NFL draft. He’s had a number of injuries in his four-year NFL career including knee surgery that caused him to miss the 2010 season.
The Eagles should be OK without Abiamiri considering the bevy of offseason moves they've made. They've picked up players like CB Nnamdi Asomugha and CB Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie to shore up the pass defense and DE Cullen Jenkins for the defensive line.
Abiamiri is coming out of the University of Notre Dame. In three career NFL seasons, he has 20 tackles and four sacks.
