Legedu Naanee Signs With Carolina Panthers, According To Report

The Panthers have agreed to terms with former Chargers WR Legedu Naanee, according to a report. Naanee will bring immediate depth to a position where there previously was none in Carolina.

The Carolina Panthers have snatched up one of the remaining free agent wide receivers on the market, reportedly agreeing to terms with former Charger Legedu Naanee.

Naanee brings size to a team that's consistently struggled to find reliable options at wideout after Steve Smith. They drafted Dwayne Jarrett and he did nothing. They had been stuck with a competition of Armanti Edwards, David Gettis and Brandon LaFell to match up across the field with Smith, so clearly something needed to be done.

Is Naanee the answer, though? He was projected to do big things with the Chargers last year after injuries and Vincent Jackson's holdout forced him into playing time. That didn't happen. After catching a 59-yard touchdown pass in Week 1, he wouldn't catch another score all season, finishing with 23 catches for 371 yards in 10 games.

Still, he's 6-foot-2, fast and has some talent. Though the Panthers should really have made more of a push to sign a higher-profile WR like Braylon Edwards, Naanee is far better than the quagmire they have on the roster right now, and gives whoever starts among Derek Anderson, Jimmy Clausen or Cam Newton another target.
