Quarterbacks are not supposed to get hit in practice as they seem more susceptible to injury than most. Jacksonville Jaguars signal-caller David Garrard even wears a red jersey to remind his teammates of that fact, but it apparently didn't work out as planned.

Garrard suffered an apparent back injury after being knocked down in Thursday night’s preseason practice, according to the Florida Times-Union, but it doesn’t seem to be too serious.
“David’s back got a little tight, so we’re just icing him down,” Del Rio said. “He’ll get treatment and all that. But he should be fine, so nothing major there. He came to me after the first team period, then to Mike Ryan, and said it was getting tight. It’s not the time to push through that kind of thing, so just let it settle down.”
Del Rio went on to say that there's a good chance Garrard will play in his team's preseason opener, so it doesn't seem like it's Blaine Gabbert time quite yet, but it seems this could have been easily avoided had the defense minded the red jersey rule.
