The Jacksonville Jaguars spent the ninth overall pick in the 1998 NFL draft on a running back out of Florida named Fred Taylor. 13 years later, it's one of the best decisions they've ever made. Taylor will return to the Jacksonville on Friday and announce his retirement, as a Jaguar.
Fred Taylor To Retire As A Jacksonville Jaguar
RB Fred Taylor, the Jaguars 1998 first round pick, will return to Jacksonville this week to announce his retirement.

You knew Taylor was going to be a good one pretty quickly as he rushed for over 1,200 yards and 14 touchdowns in his rookie season. He had injury problems throughout his career but when he was healthy, he was very good. He eclipsed the 1,000 yard rushing mark seven times in his career and only once did he fail to reach 1,000 yards in a season where he started at least 10 games.
Taylor finished his career with two forgettable season with the New England Patriots. Injuries had him active for just 13 games in the last two seasons but it's notable that BIll Belichick and Co. kept him around the team even though he wasn't contributing much on the field. He was a valuable locker room guy.
Taylor might just be the best player in Jags history so it’s fitting that he’ll sign a one-day contract and retire there. SB Nation’s Big Cat Country is reviewing Taylor’s place in Jaguars history so hop on over there and see what they’re saying.
