The saga of Stephen Garcia as the South Carolina Gamecocks quarterback continues to beguile us as Steve Spurrier has announced that Connor Shaw, not Garcia, will take the first snaps of South Carolina's September 3 season-opener against East Carolina.
Connor Shaw, Not Stephen Garcia, Will Start For South Carolina
Steve Spurrier has announced that Connor Shaw, not Stephen Garcia, will take the first snaps of South Carolina’s September 3 season-opener against East Carolina.

However, Garcia will still see some action in the game.
Steve Spurrier says that Connor Shaw will start at quarterback and will play the whole 1st Q. Garcia will play whole 2nd Q.
So why Shaw and not imcubant Garcia? Simple, says Spurrier. “The guy who rated the best was Connor Shaw...this is going to play its way out.”
Shaw was mostly used as a scrambler last season, playing in nine games and passing for 223 yards while running for 165 yards.
For Garcia, this is the latest in a long line of public votes of no-confidence on Steve Spurrier’s part. He should probably be used to this by now.
