Adrian Peterson signed a contract extension with the Minnesota Vikings worth a reported $100 million.
Peterson is signing a seven-year, $100 million deal with $36 million guaranteed, per league sources, according to a tweet from Pro Football Talk. This will probably alleviate any talk of Peterson comparing playing football to “modern-day slavery” -- a statement he later admitted he regretted saying.
Peterson is the second high-profile running back to get a substantial contract extension prior to the regular season, following up on Chris Johnson's four-year, $53.5 million extension with the Tennessee Titans. Johnson's contract contained $30 million in guaranteed money, according to reports, making Peterson the highest paid running back to date -- at least in terms of guaranteed money.
The Vikings open the season on Sunday in San Diego to play the Chargers, where Peterson will be heavily leaned on as Donovan McNabb gets used to another new offense.
