Bills’ Stevie Johnson Responds After Eric Berry’s Injury

The Kansas City Chiefs received devastating news on Monday when it was confirmed that S Eric Berry would be out for the rest of the season with what's been reported as a torn ACL. The news is terrible for the Chiefs who were already without one of their top offensive weapons in TE Tony Moeaki, also to a torn ACL.

Berry went down twice early in the Chiefs game against the Buffalo Bills on Sunday with what seemed like cramps. He eventually went to the locker room and returned to the sidelines with a wrap on his left knee.

It appears that Berry’s injury came early in the first quarter with a block by Bills WR Stevie Johnson. You can see video of the play here.

While the block is angering a few Chiefs fans, it’s not illegal. When a fan asked Johnson about the block, insinuating it was illegal, Johnson replied:

man shutup U clown ILL NEVER CHEAPSHOT A PLAYER ON THE FIELD! IDC if he my Enemy U Square! Last I checked a cut block was legal!

Johnson wasn’t flagged and probably won’t be fined. That said, as Pro Football Talk points out, some players wish it were illegal.

That said, most players wish it were illegal. Last year, after a rash of helmet-to-helmet hits heightened everyone’s sensitivity to defenseless players, several players made it clear that they’d rather be hit high than low, since taking a low hit can tear up a knee - and limit or end a career.

The Chiefs hope Berry can return from the injury. Though they haven’t formally placed him on IR, that seems the most likely scenario at this point.
