There was some hubbub during the New Orleans Saints and Green Bay Packers when CB Charles Woodson appeared to punch TE David Thomas in the groin. The good news is that he didn't punch him in the groin -- it was the stomach.
Charles Woodson Fined $10,000 For Punching Saints Player
The rulebook says when a punch is thrown a player could be ejected but Woodson wasn’t thrown out from the game. The league has seen the tape of the game and they’re not letting Woodson go without discipline.
Multiple reports say Woodson was fined $10,000 for the punch on Thomas.
$10,000 is less than two percent of Woodson’s weekly pay so it hardly affects him and the only deterrent is the penalty. If the league truly wants to enforce some of these rules, especially some of these sportsmanship rules, players need to be ejected when they violate the rules, regardless of their part. The money likely won’t affect Woodson at all.
