Week 1 of the 2011 NFL season didn’t go without a few upsets as the Cincinnati Bengals took down the Cleveland Browns, the Detroit Lions defeated the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, the Buffalo Bills blew out the Kansas City Chiefs, the Chicago Bears took down the Falcons and the Washington Redskins beat up on the New York Giants. In case you’re into throwing money down on NFL games or if you need a little help this week in your pick ‘em league, here’s a few teams to watch that could be on upset alert.
NFL Week 2 Upset Watch For Texans, Broncos And Eagles
The Eagles, Broncos and Texans could be on upset alert in week two of the NFL season.
Where: Miami
Spread: Texans by three
Why:
The Dolphins are coming off a loss to one of the league's best teams, the New England Patriots. However, in that loss, Chad Henne looked impressive, completing 30 of 49 passes for 416 yards and two touchdowns and he ran for a seven-yard score as well. If Henne can have that kind of game again, who knows what could happen. The Dolphins seem to want to use Reggie Bush in every aspect of their offense, which could be bad news for opposing defenses as Bush is a threat every time he's on the field and Brandon Marshall looked impressive last week, racking up 139 reception yards. The Dolphins are looking to bounce back from a loss on Monday Night Football and even though the Texans are coming off a 34-7 win over the Peyton Manning-less Colts that didn't put up the amount of fight that the Dolphins will on Sunday.
Cincinnati Bengals over Denver Broncos
Where: Denver
Spread: Broncos by three and a half
Why:
Like the Dolphins, the Broncos are coming off a week one Monday Night Football loss. The Bengals upset the Browns in week one. The Broncos will be looking to rebound at home but with a short week of work and rest and the fact they they're team's injury report looks like they're in week 15, the Bengals could pull off two road upsets in a row. Darren McFadden ran all over the Broncos last week and Cedric Benson will try to do the same and since Champ Bailey is unlikely to play, A.J. Green could run wild. The Bengals have a fairly talented defense and Kyle Orton didn't look too impressive last week and they'll likely be without Knowshon Moreno. It's not hard to picture the Bengals coming out of week two with a 2-0 record.
Where: Atlanta
Spread: Eagles by three
Why:
The Eagles are the "dream team" but they're going to be going up against an extremely talented Atlanta Falcons team on their home turf. The Falcons started the season off with a disappointing loss on the road to the Chicago Bears and they'll look to rebound this week. Matt Ryan didn't throw a touchdown last week but I'm willing to chalk that up to a long offseason and the lockout. Ryan, Roddy White and rookie receiver Julio Jones will start to gel soon and when they do, they're going to be dangerous and hard to stop. If the Eagles aren't prepared, they could be in trouble.
