Teemu Selanne is back. Officially, he'll play one more year with the Anaheim Ducks, signing a one-year, $4 million deal on Thursday afternoon. The long wait was caused mostly by offseason knee surgery, and he'll enter camp with one more chance to do something special.
Teemu Selanne Signs With Anaheim Ducks, Will Play Another Season
Teemu Selanne will return for a 19th season. The 41-year-old signed a one-year, $4 million contract with the Anaheim Ducks on Thursday.
Last season was pretty special for Selanne. Down the stretch of the regular season, he became one of the most important pieces in the Ducks’ surge to the Western Conference playoffs. He scored 80 points in just 73 games last season, 20 of which came in the final 16 games of the year. He’s a major offensive piece of the puzzle for the Ducks, and his return is much more than just another exciting year of hockey from the Finnish Flash.
Without him, the Ducks wouldn’t be the same team.
Selanne said on a conference call with reporters Thursday that he didn't consider a return to Winnipeg with the new Winnipeg Jets, even though they did call him this offseason to gauge his interest. The Ducks will play in Winnipeg on December 17. That'll be must-see TV.
