NFL Scores Week 2: Saints Defense Responds. Suffocates Cutler, Bears In 30-13 Victory

The New Orleans Saints manhandled the Chicago Bears in a 30-13 win.

Last week, the New Orleans Saints were overwhelmed by the defending Super Bowl champion Green Bay Packers in a 42-34 loss. What a difference a week makes.

Drew Brees threw for 270 yards and three touchdowns and the Saints defense rebounded from a rough outing as they did not allow the Chicago Bears to get settled in a 30-13 win.

The Bears took an early 7-0 lead and looked like they were going to defeat their second consecutive NFC South opponent with relative ease after beating the Atlanta Falcons last week. Yet, that was the only touchdown that Chicago scored as the Saints reeled off 16 straight points from three John Kasay field goals and a Devery Henderson 79-yard touchdown catch. Darren Sproles had 60 combined yards through the air and on the ground with one touchdown, while Mark Ingram rushed for 51 yards on 14 attempts.

Jay Cutler threw for 244 yards and one touchdown, but was suffocated all afternoon by a Saints defense looking to make a statement after giving up 42 points last week. The Saints sacked Cutler six times, including three on consecutive plays in the fourth quarter that left the oft-sacked quarterback visibly frustrated. Cutler has been sacked 11 times this season.

The Saints will host the Houston Texans next week, while the Bears will host their biggest rival when the Packers travel to Chicago next Sunday.
