Carolina Panthers LB Thomas Davis has torn his ACL -- again. The former first round pick tore his ACL in two previous seasons so this is the third time he's torn it. An ACL injury like that is generally a long recovery process so his season will likely end on injured reserve.
Thomas Davis’ Injury Is Serious: Torn ACL For Panthers Linebacker
Davis first tore his ACL in the middle of the 2009 season missing the second half of the season. He returned that summer for minicamps to prepare for the 2010 season and tore his ACL again.
Now, two games into the 2011 season, he’s done it again.
The Panthers were confident enough in Davis’ comeback ability that they gave him a five-year contract prior to the 2011 season. He received a $7 million signing bonus as part of that and there was another $8 million due to him in 2012 but it’s hard to see him receiving that money after this latest injury.
A tough situation for Davis, and for the Panthers, who had been looking better than the 2010 two-win team.
