The deadline to sign franchised players was 4:00 p.m. (ET) on Tuesday afternoon and Haloti Ngata and the Baltimore Ravens closed a deal shortly before the deadline. According to NFL Network's Albert Breer, Ngata and the Ravens agreed to terms on a five-year deal.
Haloti Ngata, Baltimore Ravens Agree To Five-Year Deal
Financial details of the deal weren’t disclosed. Haloti was playing under the franchise tag which guaranteed him more than $12 million 2011 alone so while it’s a five-year deal, it’s really a four-year extension. He’s under contract through 2015.
The two sides had until Tuesday afternoon to sign a long-term deal or signing a new deal had to be tabled until the end of the season.
Ngata, 27, is entering his sixth year in the NFL and has a pair of Pro Bowls and one All-Pro season. He’s one of the best defensive linemen in the game and his new contract will likely reflect that.
The two sides really cut it close as there were reports as recently as this week that they likely wouldn’t come to an agreement before the deadline.
