Tennessee Titans DE Derrick Morgan received a 15-yard penalty last Sunday against the Baltimore Ravens for hitting, who else, a quarterback. Ravens QB Joe Flacco fumbled and dove on the ball in their Week 2 game and two Titans players dove on top of him.
Titans’ Derrick Morgan Fined For Hit On Joe Flacco
Titans DE Derrick Morgan was fined $7,500 for a hit on Ravens QB Joe Flacco in Week 2 but plans to appeal.
Flacco hadn’t been touched, so he wasn’t down, meaning someone had to touch him to keep him down. Morgan was the second player there and dove on Flacco what seemed like a flinch second after the first player.
For that, he received a 15-yard penalty and a fine. According to the Tennessean, Morgan was fined $7,500, but says he will appeal the fine.
For his part, Morgan seems to think he, and even the Ravens, felt it was a clean play.
“Even a member of the Ravens offensive line said that as a tough call. So it’s kind of up in the air. The official probably thinks he made the right call. I’ll be fine if I don’t get fined,” said Morgan, who was playing his first regular season game since last October when he tore the ACL in his left knee.
The NFL disagreed and Morgan gets fined anyway.
