Jamaal Charles Suffered A Horrible Injury; Sign Up For Fantasy Football!

Jamaal Charles’ injury on Sunday didn’t just cost him the rest of the season, setting back his career and the fortunes of his team. It also ruined the season for millions of fantasy owners who’d built their team around the Chiefs’ 23 year-old running back.

It’s terrible news for everyone involved.

So I bet you were wondering—how can the NFL exploit this to promote fantasy football?

Ahhhh, yes! That’s it! The best possible exploitation we could have dreamed! And here we all are again, loving pro football, but sorta hating the way the NFL promotes it.

Vikings punter Chris Kluwe sums it up best, I think:

Yep, the same league that never misses a chance to let us know just how much they care about player safety is the first one to try to capitalize on a gruesome player injury. But let’s give credit where credit’s due. They didn’t go halfway with this. Not only did they manage to turn Charles’ horrifc injury into a cheap marketing gimmick, but they managed to pair it with a picture that exudes scorching amounts of pain and humiliation.

”Because that’s totally what fantasy owners felt on Sunday! Good thing everyone who owned Jamaal Charles can go feel better at NFL.com, amirite?

So, yeah: Sometimes it can be hard to see just how, exactly, Roger Goodell’s NFL bathes itself in corporate hypocrisy and treats us all like idiots. Then other times it’s pretty easy. #unfuckingbelievable.
