NFL Scores Week 3: San Diego Chargers Hold Off Kansas City Chiefs For 20-17 Victory

The Kansas City Chiefs fell to 0-3 in 2011 following their 20-17 loss to the San Diego Chargers. Matt Cassel threw an interception with less than two minutes left in the game.

The Kansas City Chiefs just can't catch a break this season. They fell to the San Diego Chargers on Sunday afternoon, 20-17. It was a marginal improvement following two blowout losses to start the season.

The Chiefs actually had a chance to pick up the comeback victory with less than two minutes left to play. Matt Cassel found Leonard Pope for a 23-yard gain, putting them in Chargers territory. Cassel looked toward Dexter McCluster for a short pass, but safety Eric Weddle put his hands on the ball and came down with the interception. Philip Rivers put a knee to the ground twice to run out the clock.

Surprisingly, Cassel was the quarterback to throw for a couple of touchdowns. Chargers quarterback Philip Rivers had two interceptions. However, the Chiefs failed to capitalize on either.

Chargers running back Ryan Mathews picked up both of the team's touchdowns and had 98 yards on the ground. The Chiefs, looking for someone to fill in for Jamaal Charles, saw McCluster pick up 45 yards on nine carries. Thomas Jones had a team-high 14 carries for 31 yards.

The Chiefs (0-3) host the Minnesota Vikings next week. The Chargers (2-1) welcome the Miami Dolphins to San Diego on Sunday.
