Oakland Raiders running back Darren McFadden injured his groin in the fourth quarter of Sunday's victory over the New York Jets, but the general belief is that McFadden will play this Sunday against the New England Patriots. Raiders head coach Hue Jackson spoke about the injury and did not appear all that concerned. McFadden also dismissed the injury following Sunday's game but was unavailable for comment on Monday.
Darren McFadden Injury Update: Oakland Raiders Expect Run DMC To Play
McFadden is off to a monster start with 393 rushing yards and 84 passing yards. Add in six total touchdowns and a team-leading 11 receptions and McFadden is an all-around fantasy threat. The Raiders have several offensive weapons, but McFadden is the engine that makes the offense go.
There has never been a question about McFadden’s fantasy potential, but his inability to stay healthy has infuriated owners season after season. He finally broke through last season with a big year but still missed three games. If he could stay healthy he could legitimately be in the MVP discussion.
We'll see how this injury develops over the week, but do not be surprised if he loses a few carries to Michael Bush next week, even if he is proclaimed to be 100%. The Raiders would be wise to lower his load a bit if it will keep him on the field longer through the season.
