Tommie Harris Signed By Chargers; Bob Sanders Is Placed On IR

The San Diego Union Tribune is reporting the Bob Sanders experiment is over in San Diego as the Chargers released the former Indianapolis Colts safety. The Chargers signed the oft-injured Sanders over the offseason but various injuries will end his season.

In his place, the Chargers signed DT Tommie Harris, formerly of the Chicago Bears and, for a short time, the Indianapolis Colts.

Sanders is a classic example of what injuries can do to a career. He was originally the Colts second round pick in the 2004 NFL draft and achieved All-Pro status by his second season. He was clearly a difference maker for the Colts secondary but injuries were always a problem, something that’s continued to plague him.

Entering the 2011 season, Sanders had played in just nine regular season games since his All-Pro 2007 season -- six in 2008, two in 2009 and one in 2010. The Colts released him last February and the Chargers signed him once the lockout was lifted in late July. A great player when healthy, which isn’t often.

So the Chargers have placed on IR a guy who had two Pro Bowl appearances and signed someone with three Pro Bowl appearances. A couple of big names on the move in San Diego.
