San Francisco 49ers running back Frank Gore spoke with the press Thursday and does not sound optimistic that he'll play on Sunday. When asked whether he'll be ready Sunday, Gore told the media, "I don't know, man. I really don't know. If I can't go, I can't go."
Frank Gore Injury Update: 49ers Running Back Not Optimistic About Playing Sunday
This is a particularly pertinent quotation because Gore is normally a guy who thinks he will be ready to take the bulk of the load on a given Sunday. To hear Gore sound less than optimistic means he is looking like a game-time decision for fantasy owners.
If Gore is unable to go, Kendall Hunter would likely get the start, with Anthony Dixon operating as his backup. The 49ers have former Boise State running back Ian Johnson on their practice squad and it is possible they would activate him to operate as an emergency third back and special teams contributor.
As the practice participation reports come in Thursday and Friday we’ll have more information. For now though, assume that you’ll need to check back again Sunday morning when the inactive lists come out.
